FINAL DEADLINE WORKSHOP REGISTRATION: 15 JUNE!

Industrial minerals of Norway
Are Korneliussen, Håvard Gautneb, NGU, Trondheim
An overview geological information of Norwegian industrial mineral deposits, with focus on deposit types that are in production and those with a proven resource potential. Due to a large geological diversity with rocks from Archaean to Phanerozoic origin, a considerable variety of deposit types have formed. More details here (pdf-file)

Industrial minerals of Nepal
Lila Nath Rimal, Sudhir Rajaure, DMG, Kathmandu
Nepal’s metallic minerals such as iron, copper, lead and zinc and gold will be the topic of the first half day, as the national Mineral Development Policy, Exploration Status, potential deposits and challenges in the development of mineral sector in Nepal. Focus on the second half of day will non-metalic deposits such as limestone, magnesite and marble.

Laser Ablation ICP mass spectrometry (LA-ICP MS) in mineralogy
Belinda Flem, Axel Müller, Øyvind Skår, NGU, Trondheim
Participants will gain hands-on experience, learn the theory and operation of LA-ICP MS, and participate in demonstrations of applications such as ultra-trace element analysis of quartz and isotope analyses of zircon. Organizers will introduce you to the operation of the double focusing sector field instrument model ELEMENT-1 Finnigan MAT and the excimer NewWave UP193FX laser probe. More details here (pdf)

Introduction to Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) in geology
Jarle Hjelen , Bjørn Eske Sørensen, Terje Malvik, Kari Moen NTNU, Trondheim
This workshop presents background, physics, methods, sample preparation, data handling and case studies. Participants will receive hands-on training on the microscopes at the NTNU lab.

Particle Tracking - Maximising the Use of Liberation Information in Minerals Processing
Pertti Lamberg (Luleå University of Technology) and Sergio Vianna (Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre, Queensland)
Particle Tracking is a mass balancing technique of liberation data, and when fully utilised includes steps which link the particle data into chemical and mineral mass balance of a minerals processing circuit. Finally the balanced particle data will be used in a process simulator. Participants to this hands-on workshop receive a temporary license for HSC Chemistry software. Please bring your own laptop and permission to install this software! More details here (pdf-file)

MSA/GS Short Course on Applied Mineralogy of Cement and Concrete
Maarten A.T.M. Broekmans (NGU) Herbert Pöllmann (Martin Luther Universität in Halle - Saale)
